When asked by a lifelong friend to create a piece that celebrated her accomplishments both personally and professionally, Ana-Katarina knew that she needed a design palette that was as intricate as the recipient. This friend—a businesswoman who also is the godmother to Ana-Katarina’s daughters—has risen to the top of her field, and serves as the Head of Development at a leading Saudi women’s center.

Using an Art Nouveau floral motif, Ana-Katarina created these two versions for the clients review. When the final design is selected, the cuff will be crafted in several pieces and clasped together--a design style found in both Balkan and Middle Eastern tradition.

Design: Redefined

This ring, initially comprised of a wedding set, was taken and transformed with the primary goal of making it into one signature statement piece. The two pear-shaped diamonds equal .77tw and the shank is created with 4 marquise diamonds equaling .30ct and round brilliant diamonds equaling .20ct. Everything is set off with pave set diamonds equaling 1.00ct, for a total diamond weight of 2.27ct. This piece is yet another example of Ana-Katarina's ability to reshape, rebuild and transform existing pieces to make them infinitely more special and personal to their owner.

A Ring Inspired by a Coral Creature (Part II)

Shortly after AnaKatarina was first hired to redesign the original coral ring that inspired this work of art, it was stolen. Rather than completely reconstruct the missing item, AnaKatarina used inspiration from a dream involving sea urchins which inspired the colors, shape and texture that are reflected in the finished piece, shown above. This oval-shaped coral stone is set in 18k yellow gold and features an intricate beading and a detailed undercarriage.

It is not uncommon to hear someone say that one of the most unique mementos from any travel experience is something as basic as a coin. No sooner do these small metal pieces leave their country of origin, they become relics of experience, transforming from their intended value to sentimental value. Designer Ana-Katarina knows this first-hand.

When she received a Byzantine coin as a gift earlier this year, it already had tremendous sentimental meaning; representing the history and culture of a region dear to her, along with a special relationship with the man who gifted the coin to her. Rather than tucking it away somewhere, Ana-Katarina enveloped the ancient coin in 18k rose gold and created a beautiful pendant, a truly priceless possession that has become a statement piece unto itself for Ana-Katarina.

Creating a talisman for the woman juggling it all (Part 4)

Comprised of amethyst and ruby stones, two colored rose cut diamonds and a circle of cabachon moonstone and cognac diamond stones, this symbolic custom piece reflects the very nature of the client's life, artfully displayed on this talisman. The use of moonstone in this piece provides the illusion of an inner glow called Adularesence, where the stone appears to give off the radiance of the moon reflecting on water.

The desire was to create an enchanting piece that symbolized the powerful meaning and beautiful harmony of the couple's union. To celebrate his upcoming nuptials, a long-time client of AnaKatarina Eco Gioielli reached out to designer Ana-Katarina for help. The Saudi businessman desired a piece of jewelry to present to his bride as a gift to wear on their wedding day. Because this gift is so symbolic, Ana-Katarina knew that piece needed to be a statement to represent the beauty and powerful meaning of the couple’s union. As such, the designer created this 84 ct. diamond necklace set in white gold, which is currently being crafted to be ready in time for the couple’s October wedding.

Some say that time spent waiting in airports is time lost. For one Washington State couple, however, their time awaiting a flight at JFK led to a serendipitous meeting with AnaKatarina Eco Gioielli's designer, Ana-Katarina. For this custom engagement and wedding ring, the designer of AnaKatarina Eco Gioielli, aimed to merge natural forms and antique textures; creating an original piece inspired by nature and environmentalism.

The client stated her love of clean, simple designs with statement details. Designer Ana-Katarina Vinkler-Petrovic, chose to highlight the clients love of both by creating a modern ring with an intricate finish.

The center is an oval .50tw diamond, surrounded by pave set diamonds and 18k rose gold, which is etched.

A Ring Inspired By A Coral Creature

Inspired by a dream, this custom piece has a bit of a background story; the original coral ring was stolen after designer Ana-Katarina was hired to update and redesign the classic and timeless piece. The designer decided to replace the embezzled statement ring but she did not want to create just any design, it had to be fun and different. In a recent dream, Ana-Katarina envisioned sea urchins. Everything about the maritime creature--color, texture, shape--inspired the design of this ring.

The second part of this custom project is the creation of wax images (from the CAD images in this post); casting wax into gold.

The stones and metals used will be the same: surrounding the center opal are pear shaped London blue topaz, round fire opal and cognac diamonds. All the stones are set in 18k rose gold with the exception of the topaz stones, which are set in 18k white gold.

For this custom design, a young professional with a love for deep reds and cool blues, wanted a ring that she could wear everyday. She desired a polished statement ring, one that was powerful yet joyful. Concentrating on vibrations—mood and spirit—the design uses unusual stones in a haphazard pattern with complementary under work.

In the earliest stage of the rings design-phase, jewelery designer AnaKatarina experimented, wrapping different stones around the Opal centerpiece, testing out color combination's and continuously emailing each version to her client. These back and forth exchanges (via Blackberry email) continued until both the designer and client agreed upon the arrangement and color palate of the ring.

Surrounding the center opal are pear shaped London blue topaz, round fire opal and cognac diamonds. All the stones are set in 18k rose gold with the exception of the topaz stones, which are set in 18k white gold.

After much deliberation, a final design for the custom necklace was chosen (you can view the earlier stages here and here). This is the most recent CAD image of the pendant. The necklace is still comprised of amethyst and ruby stones, two colored rose cut diamonds, and 18k rose gold. We can not wait to share images of the final product!

Love Beyond a Sea of Sapphires

Distance can sometimes hurt relationships, but for some lucky couples, true love and devotion can bridge even the vastest ocean. This recently designed piece was inspired by just such a transatlantic romance between a Boston-based man and his chic London girlfriend.

The engagement ring reflects the lifestyle of the woman for whom it was created, a fan of art-deco fashion and timeless British style. Sapphires symbolize the ocean that separated the two lovers and the two diamonds indicate upcoming unions which bring them together.

The ring features two round brilliant ethically mined Canadian diamonds (1.06 ct. t.w.), and two blue sapphires surrounded by .58 ct. t.w. pave diamonds, all set in 18k gold.

Creating custom pieces requires patient attention to the smallest details. This particular design has moved from the sketch phase [here], to a rendering that is being reviewed by the client. Before the piece moves into production it helps to create this CAD (computer-aided design) rendering of the design, streamlining the design process. This computerized image is six times the size of the actual piece, which, will be delicate and refined.

Around the circle are cabachon moonstone and cognac diamond stones, these stones represent the client. The interior stones are amethyst, ruby, and two colored rose cut diamonds. The pendant is 18k rose gold.

A custom fine jewelry design should not only be beautiful, but must
reflect the client's lifestyle, challenges, and dreams. In essence:
her soul. To achieve this, the designer has to truly connect with the
client in order to understand her--both aesthetically and emotionally.
We're currently working, for example, with an amazing woman who is--
like so many of us--trying to find balance as a wife, mother, career
woman, and Yoga enthusiast. She commissioned us to create a special
custom pendant and, after our consultation with her, we've developed
these sketches for a piece that will become a symbol of her family and
a talisman for her soul.

Different gemstones conjure specific feelings and emotions, and--given
this woman's lifestyle--we wanted to incorporate powerful stones that
will provide her with strength, love and support. While the moonstone
soothes stress, the pink tourmaline attracts love and the yellow
tourmaline enhances personal power. The cognac diamonds and rose gold
in each design represent the calm yet elegant energy that this woman
possesses.

We're excited about this special design and will keep you updated on
the pendant as it progresses through to the finished piece. At the
moment, the client is torn between the last two sketches. Which would

When the romance between a Western-European man and an American woman from California blossomed into a marriage proposal, there was no question that the engagement ring couldn't be a standard diamond; it had to be special. His quest was to present her with a ring that fit her understated style, while uniquely expressing their love for each other.
